Tottenham captain Lloris: Wembley will be a fortress

Tottenham skipper Hugo Lloris is confident the club will be able to turn Wembley into a place to fear for opponents.

Spurs left White Hart Lane, the ground they had played at for 100 years, at the end of last season.

They will play at the national stadium in the 2017/18 season while their new complex is being constructed. Their second match of the new campaign is on Sunday, when they take on the defending champions, Chelsea.

The north London club do not have the best history at England's biggest arena, having endured a poor European campaign there last season.

But Lloris believes the Tottenham fans will create an atmospheric environment.

He told Sky Sports: "You need to repeat and repeat. It's difficult to compare Wembley and White Hart Lane, where Tottenham played for over 100 years. It's an historic place, for all the Spurs fans and players.

"But the only thing we can do is to walk out, get prepared in our mind, and to build a confidence through results and performances. I am quite confident we will reach the level that we want at Wembley.

"I can understand that for the opponent team and fans it's a big place to come, but we need to make this place hard for the opponent, like at White Hart Lane.

"White Hart Lane was a special place for all the fans, the players, and even more last season because we finished unbeaten.

"But our head and minds are focused on Wembley now, we know it is a transition before the new stadium comes next season, and we will do our best to make this our own stadium, create a real atmosphere."
