Tottenham boss Redknapp explains Leitert departure

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is pleased with the appointment of Tony Parks as new goalkeeper coach.

In his progamme notes for yesterday's defeat by Everton, Redknapp wrote: "Today's game will see Tony Parks in the home dugout for the first time and I am delighted to welcome him back to the Club after he officially started work yesterday and, with the help of Pat Jennings and Perry Suckling, we have an excellent team of goalkeeping coaches.

"Everyone wishes Hans Leitert all the best for the future and I would like to thank him for all the work he did here, but I felt that we needed someone who had experience of the English game. We looked around and nobody came out better than Tony. His credentials are terrific. He played for Tottenham and knows what this club is all about - it is his club."

On the form of goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, Redknapp added: "He needs all the encouragement we can give him because I know he will prove to be an absolute top-class goalkeeper."
