Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says captain Ledley King is playing his way to a new contract.
Redknapp admits he feared the worst for King in the summer when the England defender needed more surgery on his crocked knees.
But King's displays in four appearances this season, all of which Spurs have won, have shown he is still a vital part of the team.
Redknapp said: "I'm just hoping he'll be fit for Newcastle because he's an amazing player. He defies all belief, coming out and playing every weekend. It's crazy in today's Premier League.
"After games all the players say how good Ledley is. Knowing he's out there gives everyone an air of confidence. That's how I feel whenever he plays."
