Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits he fancied a move for Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill.
Cahill was outstanding in Bolton's 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Saturday.
"I think he looks a real potential England centre half," said Redknapp. "I was interested a little while ago. I think he had a buy-out clause."
Spurs striker Peter Crouch said: "I played with Gary when he was a kid at Villa and if he bides his time he is good enough to be part of the England set-up for a long time."
