Tomiyasu signs new Arsenal contract

Takehiro Tomiyasu has signed a new deal with Arsenal.

The Sun says the Japan international has penned a new contract extension. An announcement is expected soon.

Arteta has previously said of Tomiyasu: "It gives you a lot of solutions, not only because from right-back he can use both feet, but he can play right centre-back, left centre-back and left-back.

“That gives you enormous variability and it's the way he has been coached from a really young age, that's what he says — so for him, left and right is the same."

"We don't have a player like him. Defending, he is probably the best I've seen in many situations.

“His concepts, his principles, the way he applies them, the way he goes into duels. The way he reads danger and resolves urgent situations with a lot of composure.

“His skill to defend, the way his body is built, it makes him a really complete player to do that. It's really difficult to get past him.

"He's always alert, that's the way he's been raised and educated — he's always super focused. For a defender, that's a big, big attribute."
