Cheick Tiote is happy manager Alan Pardew has penned an eight-year deal at Newcastle United.

Tiote committed his future to Newcastle under Pardew 18 months ago by signing a new deal until 2017. And he was pleased to see the former West Ham United boss sign up for the duration of his current contract by signing a longer deal until 2020.

Of his manager's deal, Tiote told the Evening Chronicle: "I think it is good news for everyone and every player.

"We know he's done a good job with Newcastle.

"I am happy to see him sign a contract for a long time.

"For me, it is a good thing to see."
