Liverpool hero Phil Thompson is concerned about Roberto Firmino's contract situation.
Firmino's current contract expires at the end of the season. There has been talks of a potential renewal but he is yet to put pen to paper. The former England defender is adamant the Brazilian should be offered a new deal.
Thommo told the Daily Express: “It does concern me.
"People have asked me for many years 'who's your favourite player?', always thinking that it's going to be Van Dijk because I was a central defender, and Virgil has been supreme. But my favourite player has always been Bobby Firmino, I love the way he links the team together, and I think he is just brilliant.
"I can't understand why he's not had a contract offered to him yet. I do hope that will materialise, certainly when we get into January."
Firmino can talk to foreign clubs regarding a free transfer in the summer once the January window opens. And that is another reason Thompson wants a contract signed soon, adding: "That would be a worry because I do like him very much and as we've seen he's still got a lot to offer this side.
"So hopefully they can come together and Bobby will sign. I think it will give everybody a lift, even the players because he is so well liked."
