The oldest football clubs in the world

- the following is a sponsored article

England is the football nation of the world and at the same time the cradle of sport. Only a few people know that there are English associations that have existed since the 1850s.

Nottingham Forest

Even though Nottingham Forrest was founded as early as 1865, it does not mean that it will take the club more there. Among other things, he has mixed in several times at the European Cup of National Champions and even won against Malmö and HSV in the early 1980s.

FC Wrexham

FC Wrexham was founded in 1864 and was actually a cricket club. The club have already been involved in the European Cup Winners' Cup eight times, although they have never made it to more than one round of the last sixteen.

FC Brigg Town

If you don't know FC Brigg Town, don't despair. Founded in 1864, the club is one of the oldest football clubs in the world - but apart from that, there is no other reason to have heard of it. The subclass club is only known locally. The highest of the feelings was a home game with about 2000 spectators - the game took place in 1953. (Source: Bonus.net)

Bradford Park Avenue A.F.C.

Also this association will certainly not cause too large fan storms. The club was founded in 1863, but only since 1907 has it been considered a real football club. Previously it was a rugby club.

Stoke City

The English club Stoke City has existed since 1863 and participated three times in the European Cup. The biggest success was the group phase of the Europa League (2011/12). Shortly afterwards, however, the team retired as usual.

Notts County

This association from Nottingham has been active since 1862 and has been active for three years as the arch-enemy Nottingham Forrest. Much more than the fact that the local meetings of the clubs regularly cause heated arguments between the fans, there is not too much to say.

Worksop Town

This club is also not necessarily one of the most frequently mentioned football clubs in the world - but it has been active since 1861. The biggest success of the club was the fact that the third FA Cup round was reached - in 1954.

FC Cray Wanderers

This association was founded as early as 1860 and has not made much of a name for itself to date. Nevertheless, there was a big highlight in the team history so far: The entry into the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup. This was 13 years ago ...

FC Hallam

This club is also a true Methuselah among clubs - the Sheffield-based club, founded in 1860, was initially a cricket club, which was later converted into a football club. In 1867 the club won its first tournament.

FC Sheffield

The oldest football club in the world is FC Sheffield. The association was founded in 1857 and has unfortunately not been heard from since. The biggest highlight here was the fourth round of the FA Cup, which took place in 1877/78 and 1879/80.

Even though not all the clubs listed here have really made it far into the world of football, it is still interesting to learn how everything began. Of course, the English were the inventors of the round ball game, which is why the oldest clubs in the world are located here.
