Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor hailed the character shown for their win over Chelsea.

Taylor played his part in the win, but was sent off for a late challenge on German World Cup winner Andre Schurrle.

But speaking after the win on Saturday, he said: "It's important to get three points. We just need to keep getting them points on the table. Against Chelsea, no team had done that.

"We did it. We stuck to our game plan and worked hard.

"I thought it was a great team performance and you could see the fighting spirit all the way to the end. We deserved it."
