Taxi gaffe sees Wolfsburg striker Kruse lose £80k

Wolfsburg striker Max Kruse has been fined £20,000 by the Bundesliga club for leaving £60,000 in the back of a taxi.

German publication Bild is reporting the 27-year-old won the money during a World Series of Poker tournament in Berlin, the day after Wolfsburg had played Hoffenheim in a Bundesliga fixture last October.

Kruse reportedly contacted police after realising he had left the money in the taxi, but is yet to get it back.

On top of losing his poker winnings, Kruse was slapped with a £20,000 fine by the club, who released a statement which read: "You might be a private person as a footballer when you are in your bed. At any other point, you are also an employee of the club.

"We have explained to him what sort of behaviour we expect from our players. We can only hope that he has been taught a lesson and will change his behaviour."
