FIGC presidential hopeful Carlo Tavecchio wants to see a "fresh face" succeed Cesare Prandelli as Italy coach.
However, he insists his priority is for Giancarlo Abete to reconsider his resignation as the federation's president.
"There is this strange logic that one must approach an administration in competition," Tavecchio said.
"The fact remains that President Abete has given so much to the Federation.
"Now I want to hear from the mouth of Abete that his resignation is truly irrevocable. I will personally try to persuade him to withdraw from this position.
"Today, I can say for sure that we will establish the date of the meeting and with the schedule it will be no later than August 11.
"I do not think that the Coach will be named today - it makes no sense, because it will be for the Federation Council to decide in August."
