Tambouras lands in China to link up with Guangzhou FC

John Tambouras has left North Queensland Fury to join Chinese Super League club Guangzhou FC.

The 31-year old defender signed a lucrative deal with the club late last week and today landed in China to begin the next phase of his playing career.

Tambouras said he was looking forward to the opportunity before leaving the doors of the Fury for the last time.

''Asia is a great place, (Guangzhou) is a big city as well, about 17 million people,'' Tambouras told the Townsville Bulletin.

''I thought my overseas days were finished to be totally honest, being 31 now.

''But they gave me the opportunity and it's obviously worked out well.''

Tambouras admitted he would miss the Fury players but basically said that it was a chance too good to refuse.

''I am going to miss it, the main thing I'm going to miss is the boys, the dressing room,'' Tambouras added.

''I was happy here at the Fury and let's be honest, who wouldn't be? It's a great club, a great set up and closer to home.

''When this originally came knocking I initially said no, my mind was pretty much made up.

''But you don't get opportunities overseas (that often) and at 31 I'm coming to the end of (my career), so I thought I would have one more crack at it and it turned out it went well.''
