Sydney to take patient approach with ex-Salzburg star Janko

Sydney FC will not rush marquee signing Marc Janko into action in the FFA Cup.

The Sky Blues take on A-League rivals Melbourne City FC in the Round of 32 of the inaugural cup competition on Tuesday night but 31-year old Austrian striker Janko will not be thrown straight into the fray says head coach Graham Arnold.

"Of course the Cup is important, but for us and the process we're going through my eyes are on the (A-League)," Arnold said.

"I might risk players for important games, but for this one because we're still two months out there's no way.

"(Marc Janko) is coming along well but … he's only been in the country for 10 days."

Austria captain Janko joined the Sky Blues from Turkish club Trabzonspor at the end of July. The towering forward has been prolific throughout his career, scoring 83 goals for Red Bull Salzburg, 35 for FC Twente and five in 12 outings for Portuguese giant FC Porto during a short spell in 2012.
