Swansea's Monk confident he hasn't wrecked friendship with Everton's Martinez

Swansea City boss Garry Monk does not believe he has damaged his relationship with Everton counterpart Roberto Martinez.

The former Swans captain guided the Welsh club to a 3-0 win in the third round of the Capital One Cup at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night, marking their first-ever triumph over the Toffees.

Goals from Nathan Dyer, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Marvin Emnes allowed Monk to get one over his old Swans boss but he is confident that he will still be able to call his mentor for advice if required.

"I am sure he will still take my calls," said Monk after seeing Swansea move into the final 16 of the league cup.

"I have a good relationship with him and several of his staff like Graeme Jones.

"I don't ring him every day but I am sure he is at the end of the phone if I need it.

"I make my own decisions and guys like Roberto and Brendan (Rodgers) are guys I might speak to if I thought a decision was not quite right but I don't really bother them too much.

"We talk more about life than football.

"I did owe him one after they beat us twice last season, but I do not see it like that.

"It was a good night, three goals and a clean sheet. We played well against a strong side and it is a very good performance in a competition that is very important to myself and the team."
