Swansea confident keeping Wigan target Williams

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins insists defender Ashley Williams is not for sale.

Williams has been linked with former manager Roberto Martinez at Wigan Athletic.

But Jenkins says: "Ashley has recently signed a long-term deal and we wanted him tied down.

"In this day and age you can never say what is going to happen in the future, but what we do know is Ashley is settled in Swansea and he enjoys playing for our club. I haven't heard from anyone about him - there have been no inquiries about any of our players, and we hope it stays that way.

"These sorts of rumours are just part of football. When anybody is relatively successful in the Championship, there is always something about players moving on.

"Players will get good publicity when their team is doing well. Ashley is a strong defender, he is playing well and he has had extra publicity recently because of his achievements at international level.

"Any speculation that comes with that is just something we have to put up with."
