Swansea boss Carvalhal echoes calls for FA eligibility rule change

Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal has called on the FA to scrap what he calls a "rule that comes from the past".

The Swans were unable to field their January signings, Andy King and Andre Ayew, in Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

Players who changed clubs in the winter transfer window are ruled ineligible for the competition. And Carvalhal has pleaded with the governing body to change the rule.

"I believe this is a rule that comes from the past," he said.

"It comes from a time where the transfer window in January did not exist, it did not open.

"I believe it is a rule that needs to be changed because if you look in the Premier League, Andre and Andy are able to play for us even though they have played for other teams.

"So I think they must review the rule, but I don't think it would change anything for this game and I do not want to seem to be moaning.

"Of course if you have all the players in your squad fit, not suspended and available you have more in your hands.

"This is what every coach in the world wants.

"For Swansea, to miss one player is a big damage. To miss three or four makes a massive difference to us.

"But this is life and we played with 11 players and with the whole squad."
