Sunderland refuse to give up on Wigan Athletic midfielder Lee Cattermole.
The Daily Express says while Cattermole has been told he is staying at Wigan, Bruce's old charge could yet make the move to the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland have had bids of £6.5m and £8m rejected by chairman Dave Whelan.
