Sunderland, Villa chasing Novara star Pablo Andres Gonzalez

Argentine striker Pablo Andres Gonzalez is wanted by Sunderland and Aston Villa.

The Sunday Mirror says the 25-year-old has been in outstanding form this season for Novara, who have gone top of Italy's Serie B despite only being promoted in May.

And rival bosses Gerard Houllier and Steve Bruce both sent spies to watch him on Friday, when he scored in a 3-0 win over Vicenza. West Han have also checked on him recently.

Gonzalez hit four of Novara's goals in a 5-1 win at Portogruaro earlier this month. He joined them last year from Argentine club Grupo Universitario, based in his home town Tandil.

The striker has been the main reason for his club's success in their first season for 33 years in Italy's second division.

But tiny Novara, whose stadium holds under 9,000 people, will be powerless to resist if one of Gonzalez's Premier League suitors comes in with a £3m bid in January.
