Sunderland plan bid for Man Utd's Bardsley

Sunderland boss Roy Keane is set to land Manchester United fullback Phil Bardsley.

The People says Keane is ready to raid Manchester United for right-back Bardsley this week - and tie up a £1.5million deal for the tough defender.

Keane wants Bardsley to join his United old boys colony at the Stadium of Light and is trying to agree a fee with Sir Alex Ferguson for the Salford-born star who is currently at Sheffield United on loan.

Bardsley's attitude is admired by Keane who wants to add steel to his side for the run-in. The defender also wants to prove he can be a Premier League player after a frustrating spell.

Keane will have to buy Bardsley outright, which is causing a slight delay as Sheffield United were taking him for one price - and Sunderland will have to pay more.
