Sunderland are lining up a move for Southampton's Chris Baird.

The Black Cats are hoping to beat Fulham to the signature of the Northern Ireland international after tabling a £3million bid for the defender.

Southampton have accepted the bid and Baird is believed to be on Wearside to hold talks and undergo a medical at the Stadium of Light.

Baird is looking to move on from St Mary's after handing in a transfer request following Southampton's decision to reject an offer from Fulham.
