Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is confident of landing Wigan Athletic fullback Maynor Figueroa.
Bruce has played down talk of a big-spending January market.
But the Sunday Sun says Bruce is keen to strengthen in the New Year is the left side of his defence, with a £5m move for Wigan's Honduran defender Figueroa already in the pipeline.
