Sunderland keeper Gordon: Bolton save not my best

Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon shrugged off his wonder save in victory over Bolton Wanderers.

Gordon insists Jim Montgomery's remains the best.

Bolton defender Gary Cahill was left unmarked at the back post to head a Matt Taylor corner to the feet of Zat Knight, who drilled the ball goalwards.

Then ex-Hearts stopper Gordon - with the ball behind him - somehow flicked his effort from five yards over the bar. But the modest Scotland keeper insists Monty's save still trumps his.

And he also believes he may already have made a better stop.

Gordon said: "You can't compare this one with Jimmy's. His save won an FA Cup Final for Sunderland and will never be forgotten.

"My save just helped us on the way to three points. So I'll give that one to him. Jimmy's save is in this club's folklore. It is also there in the history of the FA Cup.

"I have watched it back on video many time and it is a moment to aspire to. But this doesn't match it.

"It was an enjoyable one though and I will remember it. I don't know if it was the best save I've made. A few years ago I made one against Motherwell that I am really proud of.

"For the Bolton one I was just trying to get back across from the corner and it was a good head back. I stuck my left hand out and I was a little behind it and was just trying to cover as much of the goal as possible.

"It was an instinctive thing to do. Luckily I got enough on it and sent it over the bar."
