Paraguay World Cup striker Nelson Haedo Valdez is in the sights of Sunderland.
The Mirror says the Black Cats have contacted Valdez's German club Borussia Dortmund about the forward.
The Bundesliga outfit want 10million or around £8m for the 26-year-old .
But Sunderland boss Steve Bruce hopes to get the marksman for less despite his impressive display in Paraguay's opening World Cup draw against Italy.
Agent Barry McIntosh, brokering his probable move to England, said: "Valdez would be great in the Premier League and there is lots of interest."
