Talent spotter John Benson is moving to Sunderland after quitting Wigan Athletic.
The Daily Mail says Benson has quit for Sunderland after failing to fit into Roberto Martinez's new-look backroom staff, despite bringing in Wilson Palacios, Maynor Figueroa and Hugo Rodallega.
In two spells at the club, between 1995 and 2002, and then 2006 until now, Benson has also been assistant manager and also briefly took charge of the first team in 1999/2000.
However, current boss Roberto Martinez wants to bring in his own man to work alongside him so Benson has stepped down.
