Sunderland defender Kilgallon impressed by Wolves and McCarthy

Sunderland defender Matthew Kilgallon has paid tribute to Wolves manager Mick McCarthy over keeping the club up after their promotion last summer.

Kilgallon regularly faced Wolves when centre-half at Sheffield United and Sunderland go to Molineux this Sunday for the final game of the season.

"They struggled at the start but seemed to get really organised and became a hard team to beat," he told SAFC TV.

"It'll be a hard game, plus it's away, but we want to go there and try to finish the season well. They won the Championship easily last year; everyone knew they'd have a good chance of staying up.

"They've done it with a few games left and I don't think they've been in the bottom three too much.

"That shows Mick McCarthy's got them playing well and playing for him.

"Molineux is a hard place to go. Their fans get behind them, it's a big pitch and a nice ground so I'll enjoy the experience."
