Sunderland confident Santiago Vergini will sign for Boca Juniors

Sunderland remain confident Santiago Vergini will complete his move to Boca Juniors.

The Sunderland Echo says he was expected to be unveiled by Boca over the weekend after the two clubs agreed a £1.5million fee last week and the player himself was ready to put pen to paper on a three-year contract.

Vergini had even taken part in a photo shoot wearing a Boca shirt, ahead of his unveiling by the Argentine side.

But there were widespread reports in his homeland over the weekend that Boca had identified an issue with Vergini's Achilles during his medical.

But the deal is still on track, with Vergini's injury a minor one and Boca attempting to renegotiate the terms of the transfer to knock down Sunderland's price tag.
