Sunderland chairman Quinn: Ashley can wear his Toon top

Niall Quinn says he has no problem with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley wearing a Magpies shirt at Saturday's derby at the Stadium of Light.

Ashley's black-and-white shirt has become something of a personal trademark and he has worn it to every game he has attended this season.

There have been concerns that the shirt would be provocative at the home of Newcastle's rivals for the derby on Saturday but Quinn insisted it was fine by him. Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson gave permission for Ashley to wear the shirt at the Tyne-Tees derby in August.

Quinn told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle: "I certainly wouldn't have a problem with it, but I don't know what the police would say.

"The man supports his team, and that's great. When you see enthusiasm like that, that's fine."
