Sunderland boss Gus Poyet was pleased with matchwinner Craig Gardner's FA Cup performance against Southampton.

Poyet gave Gardner a rare start on Saturday.

"The position we played Craig yesterday is the best position for him.

"When he plays behind the striker he finds himself in positions to try shots, and he is probably one of the best at that.

"In previous games, we probably didn't put him in that situation too many times.

"You have to find the player on the edge of the box at the right time and then it is up to him, and he showed yesterday what he can do.

"It was the move of the day and what a shot."
