Sunderland boss O'Neill wants Cattermole to keep derby emotions in-check

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill wants skipper Lee Cattermole to keep emotions in-check for their FA Cup derby against Middlesbrough.

On the day O'Neill became his new boss he was arrested in connection with a car-wrecking spree.

But O'Neill insisted: "I wouldn't want to prevent that wholehearted approach and his courage, which is terrific.

"I appreciate what he does, but there are times when he could be a bit more careful.

"But I've been pleasantly surprised with him.

"He has been a fantastic influence and considering he's only 23, he has genuine leadership qualities. I couldn't ask for much more for him."
