Sunderland want Wolves winger Matt Jarvis.
The Journal says the Black Cats put feelers out with the midfielder earlier in the summer, although they are yet to formalise their interest in the Molineux man.
Martin O'Neill wants another wide man to add to the competition in his squad and is also interested in Blackpool's Scotland international Matt Phillips and Manchester City's England man Adam Johnson. But Jarvis provides a compelling option because he can play either on the left or the right wing.
