Sunderland boss Keane backs O'Leary for Ireland job

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has backed David O'Leary for the Republic of Ireland job.

Keane ruled himself out of the running again, but then gave his full backing to O'Leary.

"I think Dave would be a good choice," said Keane. "The role would suit him. He would not have to work every day and he can still do his television work."

Keane also believes O'Leary's track record makes him a good candidate for Ireland.

"He has done decent jobs where he has been," Keane said. "People might argue about that, but he did OK at Aston Villa and did decently at Leeds.

"Sometimes international jobs are suited to people like David. I think, why not? He blooded a lot of young players at Leeds and that would help."
