Sunderland boss Bruce: Gyan shook my hand and told me he was staying

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce admits Asamoah Gyan's move to Al Ain has left him "baffled".

The record signing quit for Al Ain on Saturday in a loan deal.

After defeat to Chelsea, Bruce said: "48 hours ago I had him in the office telling him I wanted a decision as this had been going on too long. He shook my hand and told me he wanted to stay.

"Then 48 hours on he's manufacturing a move to the United Arab Emirates.

"I find it baffling that he can leave the best league in the world to go and play on the other side of the world."

Bruce added he didn't expect to see Gyan again, despite it only being a loan move.
