Gordon Strachan was overjoyed after guiding Scotland to a 1-0 victory over Estonia in his first game in charge of the national team.
Charlie Mulgrewâs 39th minute striker separated the two sides at Aberdeenâs Pittodrie Stadium and Strachan spoke of his relief at producing a winning start to his international coaching career.
âIâm glad itâs all over. In 40 years of football thatâs the most excited and nervous Iâve been before a game,â he said after Wednesday nightâs match.
âI didnât know how I would feel when I first took charge of the team.
âNow I know. It was an incredible experience. It rivalled getting my first cap as a player.
âI didnât expect that. Iâve done nearly everything in the game, played everywhere, but it kind of blew me away tonight.
âGetting to sleep last night wasnât easy and when I woke this morning it was âBang â youâre onâ.
âMaybe itâs the expectations of the country. I donât know, but it was different.
