Storrie fears Portsmouth forced to sell more players

Portsmouth chief Peter Storrie admits they may be forced to sell more players.

Storrie admits the club have had no financial backing for the past nine months, which is why they have been forced to offload top players like Lassana Diarra, Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch.

The Sun says he told fans: "I am as frustrated as you.

"Until this takeover happens, neither the old nor the new owner is placing any money into the business.

"When - and if - it does, I'm not yet aware of what finance will be available for players.

"The business has debts to pay and the banks are not releasing funds, so this leaves the club with no option but to sell to keep going.

"I agree we need new players, a stadium, but we can't do it without finance and we've had none of this for more than nine months.

"It's been hard work keeping things going."

Despite Sulaiman Al Fahim passing the Premier League's 'fit and proper person's test' the deal to assume control appears on a knife-edge.

He is not paying any money in the short-term to outgoing owner Sacha Gaydamak but is merely taking on the guarantees of existing debts of £27million to South Africa's Standard Bank. Until Al Fahim signs legal documents to this effect, he or Gaydamak could still walk away from the deal.
