Stoke star Adam told Delph: Why'd you want to leave Man City?

Stoke City's Charlie Adam has detailed how he advised Potters-target Fabian Delph that he could fight for his place at Manchester City.

The England international was linked with Stoke all summer, but has since thrived at City after injuries opened up an increase in playing time for him; which is something that Adam himself had predicted.

Talking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Adam said: "We were linked with him in the summer and he was going to come to us and I actually met him when Man City played Everton. I spoke to him and asked what he was thinking. He said Guardiola was happy for him to stay.

"I said, 'If you come to us you'll enjoy it but why would you leave Man City? The amount of games they play, the injuries they get, you're going to get an opportunity.'

"He's still a young player. He's probably not fulfilled the potential he showed at Villa and before that.

"I like him as a player, he's very dynamic, can see a pass and sometimes you just have to be patient.

"People will have a go at him and say, 'You're not playing, why do you want to be a squad player?' Sometimes you just have to sit there and think, 'You know what, I'll get an opportunity.' He's got that opportunity."
