Stoke keeper Butland got through Norwich clash with fractured finger

It has been revealed that Jack Butland started against Norwich City despite suffering a fractured finger two days ahead of the game.

Butland put in a sterling performance to help his side earn a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road on Saturday and the goalkeeper's display has been made all the more impressive by the fact that he played with a broken finger.

Butland revealed: "It was my decision to play. I broke it Thursday morning. I had an X-ray Thursday afternoon, we were optimistic it was a small fracture on the knuckle, not the finger on the top or bottom, and we managed to get the swelling down.

"We had a discussion over the last couple of days about what we were going to do and decided if we can manage the pain, I felt sharp and confident to play.

"It didn't cause me any problems during the game. It feels good but we have some work to do this week to get the swelling down and keep improving it but it was important to get through that day."
