Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland says playing the season on-loan at Birmingham City was the best thing for his development.

He said it was vital he carried on playing regularly, so remaining at Birmingham until the end of the season was ideal after signing for an initial £3m.

"We felt it was the right thing to continue my development," he explained to The Sentinel.

"It works out well for all sides and was the sensible option."
