Stoke finalising deal for Sunderland striker Jones

Stoke City are closing in on a deal for Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones.

Tony Pulis has been keen to sign a striker, but his summer-long pursuit of West Ham striker Carlton Cole has so far failed to bear fruit while Nice's France international Loic Remy has ruled out a move to the Britannia Stadium.

But with Jones seemingly below Darren Bent and Frazier Campbell in the pecking order at Sunderland, Pulis has made his move for a player he has long admired.

Jones has previously been a target for Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool but Stoke are the only club in the running this time and hope to complete the transfer in time to include him in their side at Wolves this Saturday.

Jones has scored 19 goals in 49 starts in the last two seasons for Sunderland.
