Stoke City are eyeing Everton defender Matthew Pennington.

The Sentinel says Stoke are closing in on the signing of Pennington.

Derby County and Wigan Athletic are both tracking the defender but reports claim Nathan Jones will win the race.

Pennington impressed on loan at Ipswich Town last season and Frank Lampard wanted him at Derby in January.

Ipswich would not allow the 24-year-old to leave, however, and he is currently scheduled to return to Everton in July.
