Centre-back Philipp Wollscheid has made a return back to Stoke City following a turbulent season at Wolfsburg.

Wollscheid had joined Wolfsburg from Stoke City last summer on a season long loan deal.

The defender managed to only make seven starts in the Bundesliga after failing to impress at the club.

If Wollscheid had featured in half of Wolfsburg's matches last season, the German outfit would have been obliged to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent basis for around £5million but since the clause was not met, the centre-back has now returned back to the Britannia Stadium.
