Stoke City defender Philipp Wollscheid has been dumped to Wolfsburg reserves.

Wollscheid, on a season-long loan, has fallen out with Wolfsburg coach Valerien Ismael.

Kicker says the demotion to the U23s was by his request.

"I want to play football again," said Wollscheid. "I went to the leaders, we had good talks.

"For all sides, this is the best solution at the moment. I go completely to the U23, I want to integrate myself quickly there and help the team."
