Preston North End have signed Stoke City defender Carl Dickinson despite late competition from Sheffield United to sign the full-back. Ferguson has completed a £750,000 deal for the defender who has returned from the Potters' pre-season tour of Austria to sign for the Championship outfit.
Dickinson was believed to be reluctant to leave the Britannia Stadium but choose to move for more regular first team football.
