Stoke City and Crystal Palace are battling for West Brom striker Saido Berahino this week.
The Mirror says Stoke boss Mark Hughes is set to launch a counter-bid for the West Brom striker, after Crystal Palace offered £20million plus £3m in bonuses last Friday.
Until then, the Potters had set the pace for Berahino, who has just a year left on his contract.
With last summer's suitors Tottenham now out of the picture and Berahino open to a move to the Bet365 Stadium, Stoke initially made a £16million verbal offer earlier this month.
The Baggies gave that short shrift, but their Midlands neighbours returned last week with a formal offer of £17m with a potential £3m more in add-ons.
Palace, though, trumped them on Friday with their fresh bid.
