Stoke chief Scholes says Hughes will receive transfer backing

Stoke City chief Tony Scholes says manager Mark Hughes will be supported in the summer market.

The 51-year-old has so far spent about £6m on transfer fees to put his stamp on the playing side, bringing in talent including Bojan at bargain prices.

But chief executive Scholes insisted: "We are looking to improve all the time - and we already have a very good squad of players here. We are clearly looking to find very good players.

"We are not going to go out and spend the amounts Manchester Untied did last summer but Mark knows that if he highlights the right deal he will be supported.

"(Xherdan) Shaqiri (a £10m January target from Bayern Munich) is a good example of that.

"We have done some very good deals in the transfer market since Mark came to the club. It's never about the size of the fee, it's about identifying the right player for the best deal.

"Of course we all recognise the market we are competing in."
