Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has told Manchester United whizkid Adnan Januzaj to toughen up.

Hughes says Januzaj could take a leaf out of Ryan Giggs's book and learn how to handle rough tackling.

"Ryan was playing in the Lancashire A and B leagues and had to go to places like Marine," he said.

"When you're a 14-year-old kid and have to go up against men, you have to deal with that early and learn very quickly how to jump out of tackles.

"I certainly didn't get any protection from referees. If anything, my opponents needed protecting from me!

"But I'd imagine that Ryan is mentoring Januzaj now as to how to deal with the situation."
