Stoke boss Hughes: Johnson returning to very best

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes is delighted with the form of Glen Johnson.

Hughes says Johnson is getting back to his best.

Hughes said: "When you look at the whole back five really since Ryan Shawcross has come back in we've had continuity in selection; Philipp Wollscheid has been magnificent alongside him, starting to grow as a player in the Premier League.

"Glen Johnson is showing everybody what a good player he is at this level and I think that's a consequence of playing week in, week out.

"I think in his last couple years at his previous club he was thrown in for games, went out of the team, got injured and as a consequence of that really he didn't play regularly.

"Now he is getting back to the levels he showed in his early career I think.

"On the other side you could argue that Erik Pieters is having his best ever season.

"All these things have to come together to allow you as a group to really progress. It means the team grows as a consequence of individuals playing to the best of their ability. We've got a high percentage of the team who are playing to the best of their ability at the moment."
