Standard Liege midfielder Axel Witsel is wanted by Middlesbrough.
The Sunday Sun says while the Teessiders face stiff competition for £8 million-rated Standard Liege playmaker Steven Defour, club-mate Witsel could cost less than half the price.
Boro scouts also noted 19-year-old Witsel's performances in Liege's recent two-legged UEFA Cup victory over Everton.
