Stand-in Blackburn boss delighted with Bolton win

Blackburn assistant manager Neil McDonald was after the 2-0 victory over Bolton on Sunday. David Dunn opened the scoring towards the end of the first half and Rovers doubled their advantage when Sam Ricketts headed into his own net on 73 minutes.

"We're happy with the performance and kept a clean sheet, which is an added bonus," he told Sky Sports News.

"I think we've contained them, created more chances in the first half and the second half.

"We just needed to pass the ball a little quicker in the second half and I thought we got through them quite easily and were well worth the 2-0 victory.

"We were looking dodgy at 1-0 but once we got the second I thought we looked quite comfortable and it is great to put that away form right."

McDonald was in charge as manager Sam Allardyce is about to undergo heart surgery and was instructed to stay away from the ground.

"I enjoyed it from the start, even from the build-up when the gaffer said he wasn't going to be here," said McDonald.

"We've worked hard on the training ground, we've got our just rewards and I look forward to the next game."
