St Johnstone captain in battle to make start of campaign

St Johnstone captain Kevin Rutkiewicz is battling to be fit for the start of the new SPL season after suffering an injury in Tuesday's friendly win over Cowdenbeath. Boss Derek McInnes is crossing his fingers the medical results come back negative.

"It looks like Kevin has shaken up his medial ligament after making a block tackle," revealed McInnes.

"He is going for tests so we should know more soon. It's definitely a concern.

"The best-case scenario is that he will be only a couple of weeks, but it's really just a case of waiting to see what the scans show."
