Tottenham are a step closer to landing Valencia striker David Villa.

The Daily Mail says reports in Spain claim the cash-strapped club will be forced to sell him in the summer.

Spurs boss Juande Ramos wants £16m Villa to replace Dimitar Berbatov, who is leaving White Hart Lane.

Villa joined Valencia from Real Zaragoza in the summer of 2005.
